Project

This was the second project in the 'In Bloom' series, in which Azuma creates floral installations in environments where flowers could not naturally exist. On this occasion, he built a four-metre-long botanical sculpture made up of around 10,000 red heliconia flowers, which was placed on a simple raft of the kind used by local fishermen and floated in the seas off the town of Hinoba-an on Negros Island in the Philippines.
The vivid contrasts between the constantly changing appearance of the flowers and the surrounding seas were recorded in a documentary.

これは、東が自然には花が存在し得ない環境に花のインスタレーションを制作する「In Bloom」シリーズの第2弾である。今回は、フィリピン・ネグロス島のヒノバアン沖に、約1万本の赤いヘリコニアの花からなる全長4メートルの作品を制作し、地元の漁師が使う簡素なイカダに載せて浮かべた。
絶え間なく変化する花と周囲の海との鮮やかなコントラストが記録された。
